FSV award 2023

The FSV award promotes "exceptional achievements in transport" that are relevant to practice, have an innovative character and meet high scientific standards.

On November 16, 2023, two theses written at the research unit of Ground Engineering, Soil and Rock Mechanics at the Institute of Geotechnics were awarded the FSV award at an ceremony at RIVERBOX in Vienna.

The dissertation by Dipl.-Ing. Dr.techn. Olja Barbir, "Development of condition-based tamping process in railway enginering : Operating phases and motion behavior, ballast condition determination, ballast fluidization, opens an external URL in a new window", makes an important contribution in the field of track maintenance work in railroad construction.

The diploma thesis of Dipl.-Ing. Nathalie Sagasser, "Geothermal utilization of a bored pile wall in the Lainzer Tunnel – Numerical modeling, comparison with measurements and fundamental influences on the structural design, opens an external URL in a new window", contains detailed investigations of a tunnel section in Vienna that was used as energy geostructure.

The two papers won out over a large number of other submissions, confirming the high quality of this work.
