After completing his studies in Technical Chemistry and subsequent doctoral training in Technical Sciences at TU Wien (Promotio sub auspiciis Praesidentis rei publicae), Hannes carried out a postdoctoral fellowship funded by the FWF Schrödinger Program in the research group of Prof. Ralph Weissleder at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School (Boston, USA). Since 2018, he has led the Molecular Chemistry & Chemical Biology research group at the Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry at TU Wien. In 2021, he was appointed Assistant Professor (tenure track), and in 2023, he received the major teaching license (venia docendi) in the subject of Chemical Biology. Since October 2023, Hannes has been University Professor at the Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry.
