Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management

The Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources Management researches the movement of water in the landscape, in rivers, lakes and in the subsurface. Basic research deals with the interaction of water movement with chemical, ecological and sediment processes, technical systems and society, such as flood processes, impact of climate change, pollutant transport in groundwater, bedload and river bed stability. Our applied research contributes to more efficient management of water resources through the development of methodological tools for flood forecasting, planning of renaturation measures, protective and utility water structures, and the management of groundwater resources. The Institute advises industry and administration at the highest level through expert services in planning projects and the development of guidelines and standards, and contributes to research-led teaching in the engineering sciences.
