Playing with Math

In this talk we will discuss how math is involved when doing some sports, when impressing people with some „magic“ tricks, when cooking, when playing various irregular rhythms or dancing on such rhythms.

Short biography:

Diana Stoeva completed a master degree in Mathematics at Sofia University „St. Kliment Ohridski“ in 1996. In addition to mathematics, she studied Bulgarian folklore dances and obtained professional qualification „Artistic leader of a dance ensemble“ in 2005. Diana Stoeva was awarded a doctoral degree in Mathematics in 2006 by the Higher Attestation Commission of Bulgaria and habilitation in 2012 at the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy in Sofia (where she was working as an Assistant, Chief Assistant, and Associate Professor). In 2009 she joined the Acoustics Research Institute of ÖAW where she worked until 2021, and she also had some periods of employment at the University of Vienna and TU Wien. Currently, she works at the University of Vienna as the principal investigator of the FWF project „Challenges in Frame Mutliplier Theory“.
In addition to doing research, it is a great passion for her to organize math activities for children and to set fire for math in children’s hearts.
