Artificial Intelligence and Wearables for Health and Wellbeing: Proactive actions

Seminarraum CG0402, am Institute of Telecommunications, 09.10.2025, 10:00 a.m.

Modern medicine is still largely reactive: we wait for symptoms to appear, seek medical attention, and only then take action. Artificial intelligence, combined with continuous monitoring of biosignals such as heart rate, blood pressure, brain activity, movement patterns, and markers of stress and anxiety, has the potential to change this paradigm by enabling a shift toward proactive, preventive, and personalized healthcare. In this talk, we will discuss how AI can power early-warning systems and tailor interventions that support mental health by identifying physiological variations linked to stress and anxiety, help manage hypertension and diabetes by predicting dangerous spikes before they occur, monitor Parkinson’s disease and sedentary behavior, and transform elder care through continuous and adaptive support.

Nano Bio: Anderson Rocha (IEEE Fellow and IEEE Biometrics Council Distinguished Lecturer) is Full-Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Forensics at the Institute of Computing, University of Campinas (Unicamp), Brazil. He is the Head of the Artificial Intelligence Lab., Recod.ai, at UnicampHe is an elected affiliate of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) and the Brazilian Academy of Forensic Sciences (ABC). He is a three-term elected member of the IEEE Information Forensics and Security Technical Committee (IFS-TC) and a two-term chair of such committee. He is a Microsoft Research and a Google Research Faculty Fellow, important academic recognitions given to researchers by Microsoft Research and Google. In addition, in 2016, he was awarded the Tan Chin Tuan (TCT) Fellowship, a recognition promoted by the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation in Singapore. Since 2023, he is also an Asia Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association Fellow. He is ranked among the Top 2% of research scientists worldwide, according to PlosOne/Stanford and Research.comstudies. Finally, he is a LinkedIn Top Voice in Artificial Intelligence for continuously raising awareness of Al and its potential impacts on society at large.
