Sampling and Sample Preparation

The analysis of heterogeneous material streams or substances often requires complex sampling, which we plan and conduct ourselves for our specific research questions—frequently deviating from established standards. To generate representative analytical samples, we perform elaborate sample preparation or develop customized methods tailored to each individual case. For this purpose, we utilize a variety of sample preparation units, including different mills and sample dividers.

To isolate the desired elements from diverse matrices for measurement, we employ various digestion technologies and have developed significant expertise in this field.

Sample Types and Experience

Typical sample types that have been extensively characterized in multiple projects include:

  • Biogenic materials, e.g., sewage sludge, plant material, wood, biochar
  • Mineral fractions, e.g., construction debris, geological materials, glass
  • Metal scrap, electronic devices
  • Plastics, refuse-derived fuels, residual waste
  • Incineration residues, such as bottom ash, fly ash
