Python Bridging Course – Now available in English!

Online course to align programming skills for TU Wien students

For many students at TU Wien, programming can be a major challenge. Graduates of general secondary schools (AHS) often feel overwhelmed at the beginning of their studies, and even graduates from technical colleges (HTL) may not always have sufficient prior knowledge. This creates a difficult situation for course instructors: some students start without any programming experience, while others are already familiar with the content from school.

To address this imbalance, we developed the Python Bridging Course within the TU Wien-internal .dcall project “JaaS MOOC.” This online course enables students without prior programming experience to independently and flexibly learn the fundamentals of programming with Python.

To ensure the course is relevant across many disciplines, we combined theoretical chapters with interactive examples and practical programming exercises from various scientific fields. The course was created in collaboration with colleagues from Informatics (Stefan Podlipnig), Chemistry (Dennis Svatunek), Mechanical Engineering (Alexander Synek & Sebastian Bachmann), as well as students from different TU Wien degree programs.

Our goal is to make programming accessible for as many students as possible and thereby provide real added value to teaching at TU Wien. If you are in the situation described above or supervise students, we warmly invite you to explore the course and share it with others.

Degree programs represented

Architecture, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geodesy and Geoinformation, Environmental Engineering, Technical Chemistry, Technical Physics, and Process Engineering
