The so-called fluff from shredder light fraction (SLF) presents a vast stream of material accumulating from the mandatory recycling of more than 200,000 motorcars, alone in Austria, each year. Mainly consisting of a complex mix of crushed foams, foils and fibres, its sole application yet is costly incineration. Simultaneously, for the use within road asphalt, fibrous stabilizers are deliberately produced to equip the structure against rutting and mechanical failure. – The process developed and patented at TU Wien transforms the fluff from SLF from undesired waste into a homogeneous, free-flowing product and synergistically generates a demonstrably superior substitute for asphalt stabilizers.
