Health Insurance

Employees of TU Wien are automatically registered with the social insurance institution from the first day of employment, in accordance with their employment contract. As a result, statutory health insurance coverage with the Insurance Institution for Public Service, Railways and Mining (Versicherungsanstalt öffentlich Bediensteter Eisenbahnen und Bergbau-BVAEB, öffnet eine externe URL in einem neuen Fenster) begins on the first day of employment.

Information on how to obtain your e-card (health insurance card) is available on the online portal for insurance cards, öffnet eine externe URL in einem neuen Fenster. An e-card can only be issued if a photo has already been registered. Employees who do not have Austrian citizenship must make an appointment with the competent e-card registration office , öffnet eine externe URL in einem neuen Fensterto submit their photo. Once the photo has been registered, the e-card will be issued. If you need medical treatment before receiving your e-card, you can visit a doctor by presenting your social security number and a valid form of identification.

Note: Dependants (e.g. spouses and children) are not automatically covered but may be included in the employee's health insurance, öffnet eine externe URL in einem neuen Fenster. To do so, employees must contact BVAEB directly.
