Michael Fink

Dr. Michael J. Fink is a deep-tech startup executive specializing in translating foundational science into commercial assets. Currently the CEO of Mask Logic Ltd. (Edinburgh, UK), he leads the industrialization of a technology platform combining 3-D scanning and advanced manufacturing, recently securing UK/EU regulatory certification for a first-of-a-kind safety product. Previously, he was a co-founder and Technology Lead at Datacule Inc. (Boston, USA), a Harvard spin-out pioneering molecular data storage, where he led technical operations and fundraising from US venture capital and government agencies.

Michael received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering (summa cum laude) from TU Wien, recognized with the Austrian Chemical Society's Best Ph.D. Thesis Award. He then worked with George M. Whitesides as an Erwin Schrödinger Research Fellow and later as a Research Associate in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University, where he acted as the operational lead for the DARPA "Molecular Informatics" program—research that formed the basis for his first commercial spin-out.

His expertise lies in bridging the gap between academic innovation and commercial reality, with a specific focus on IP strategy, fundraising, and venture formation and management. Beyond his corporate roles, he serves as Vice President of ASCINA (Austrian Scientists and Scholars in North America), developing strategies for transatlantic knowledge transfer and talent mobility between Austrian and US innovation ecosystems.
