WHAT IS ORCID?

ORCID® (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) is an open and non-profit project dedicated to creating and maintaining a registry of persistent digital identifiers for researchers (ORCID iD). The name ORCID applies to both the identification system and the organisation behind it. ORCID iD stands for the unique alpha-numeric identifier itself.

Researchers and all individuals with research-related tasks may receive a free ORCID iD. This identifier uniquely differentiates individual researchers from others and allows them to manage their own contributions and to search for other researchers in the registry.

With over 14 million entries, ORCID has established itself as a recommended (sometimes even required) standard (ISO 27729) for person identification.

For further information on ORCID or to register you own ORCID iD, please visit the ORCID website.
