Associate Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Dr.techn. Walter Wukovits, opens an external URL in a new window has been affiliated with the Institute for Process Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Technical Biosciences (E166) at the Faculty of Technical Chemistry as an Associate Professor of Process Simulation since June 1, 2026.
CV: Walter Wukovits is originally from Burgenland. He studied Technical Chemistry at the TU Wien and earned his doctorate there in 2003 with a dissertation on “Simulation and Optimization of Absorption in Mixed-Acid Regeneration, opens an external URL in a new window.” He subsequently remained closely associated with TU Wien and secured a tenure track position in 2020 in the field of process simulation, which he has now successfully concluded by qualifying as an Associate Professor.
Walter Wukovits’ scientific home is the Thermal Process Engineering and Simulation research group (E166-02). There, he leads the Sustainable Technologies and Process Simulation research group (E166-02-1). His work focuses on process simulation to analyze individual process units and their combination into complex overall processes. Process and heat integration, as well as life cycle assessment (LCA), are used to achieve efficient and sustainable processes. He has participated in several national and international projects dealing with the assessment and integration of biorefinery processes—including the fermentative production of biohydrogen (HyTime Project, opens an external URL in a new window), the production of biobutanol (Waste2Fuels Project, opens an external URL in a new window), and, currently, the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) (ToFuel Project, opens an external URL in a new window). In addition, he works on the modeling of iron and steel production processes, opens an external URL in a new window as well as on the simulation of processes based on complex electrolyte systems.
