Univ.Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Dr. phil. CV: Ariane Sept is from Berlin and studied urban and regional planning at the Technical University of Berlin. During her studies, she spent a year abroad at La Sapienza University in Rome. After graduating, she moved to Rome and worked there for the Planum Association, opens an external URL in a new window and the City of Rome on Interreg III C projects. Starting in 2008, she worked as a freelancer in the field of urban research and communication for various institutions in Germany, Austria, and Italy, often in cooperation with location3, opens an external URL in a new window (e.g., Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development, Academy for Spatial Research and Regional Planning, Brandenburg Memorials Foundation, Austrian Academy of Sciences). Starting in 2015, she worked at the TU Berlin as part of the DFG Research Training Group “Innovation Society Today” and earned her Ph.D. in sociology there in 2018 with a dissertation on the topic “Deceleration in Small and Medium-Sized Towns. Cittaslow as a Social Innovation in Urban Development, opens an external URL in a new window.” She subsequently served as a postdoctoral researcher at the Leibniz Institute for Spatial Social Research (IRS) in Erkner and as a lecturer at the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg. Since October 2022, Ariane Sept has held a W2 professorship in Participatory Municipal Development and Community Work at Munich University of Applied Sciences.
Her scientific home is in the Sociology Research Area (E280-06). From a sociological perspective, she focuses on sustainable urban and rural development, social innovations and digitalization, methods of spatial social research, community work, and new housing issues.
