Associate Professor Dipl.-Ing. Dr.techn. Hana Krasna, opens an external URL in a new window has been assigned to the Department of Geodesy and Geoinformation (E120) at the Faculty of Mathematics and Geoinformation as an Associate Professor of Astrometry since 1 December 2025.
CV: Hana Krasna comes from Prague. She completed her diploma studies in geodesy and cartography at the Czech Technical University in Prague, specialising in cartography and remote sensing. An Erasmus semester took her to the TU Wien for the first time in 2005. In 2007, she continued her master's studies in geodesy and geophysics there, graduating in 2008. She then went on to earn her doctorate in geodesy and geophysics at TU Wien with a dissertation on ‘Estimation of solid Earth tidal parameters and Free Core Nutation with Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI), opens an external URL in a new window’. During her studies, she received a scholarship from the Mondi Austria Private Foundation, which was implemented by the OEAD, opens an external URL in a new window. Hana Krasna has been employed at TU Wien since 2011 and has held various positions in the Department of Geodesy and Geoinformation. Shortly after receiving the 2013 Karl Rinner Prize from the Austrian Geodetic Commission, she was awarded an FWF Hertha Firnberg Excellence Fund grant for the project ‘Earth-based VLBI in the Galactic frame, opens an external URL in a new window’, which included a one-year research stay at the Astronomical Institute of the Academy of Sciences in Prague. In 2021, she took up a tenure track position with the specialist title of astrometry, which, after successfully completing the qualification agreement, including the award of her venia docendi, led to her becoming an associate professor with a habilitation thesis entitled ‘Global reference frames from VLBI, opens an external URL in a new window’. Hana Krasna is active in several international expert committees, including working groups of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG), the International Astronomical Union (IAU), and the International VLBI Service for Geodesy and Astrometry (IVS), where she has currently been elected to the Directing Board. In addition to her scientific work, she is also dedicated to raising two children.
Special functions at TU Wien: At TU Wien, she was involved in the Comitee on Equal Treatment as a representative of the Faculty of Mathematics and Geoinformation, specifically in the field of geodesy. She currently holds the role of plagiarism contact person for the Department of Geodesy and Geoinformation.
Her scientific home is the Higher Geodesy Research Area (E120-04), where she heads the VLBI Research Group.
