Univ.Prof. Mag.rer.nat. Dr.phil. Alois Humer, opens an external URL in a new window was appointed University Professor for regional planning and regional development at the TU with effect from October 1, 2025. CV: Alois Humer comes from Bad Ischl. After completing his degree in geography – specializing in spatial research and spatial planning – at the University of Vienna, he worked at the ÖROK office in the Federal Chancellery in 2009, but soon returned to the University of Vienna, where he received his doctorate in 2014 with a dissertation on “Services of General Interest in the EU: Spatial and Spatial Policy Dimensions, opens an external URL in a new window” (supervisor: Prof. Heinz Faßmann). He then conducted postdoctoral research at the Institute for Urban and Regional Research of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. From 2017, an Erwin Schrödinger Fellowship enabled him to conduct research at Aalto University in Espoo (Helsinki). Between 2020 and 2023, he took on the role of interim professor of spatial research and spatial planning at the Institute of Geography and Regional Research at the University of Vienna. Since October 2023, Humer has been research group leader for “Sustainable Urban Regions” at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. He is also externally affiliated as a postdoctoral researcher at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg.
