Associate Prof. Aleix Comas Vives, PhD, opens an external URL in a new window has been affiliated with the Institute of Materials Chemistry (E165) at the Faculty of Technical Chemistry of the TU Wien as an Associate Professor of Heterogeneous Catalysis since January 1, 2026.
CV: Aleix Comas Vives is from Catalonia (Spain), where he studied chemistry at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. In 2009, he earned his Ph.D. there in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry. He then moved to Germany and conducted research as a postdoc in the field of theoretical electrochemistry at the University of Ulm before moving to ETH Zurich in 2012, first as a postdoc, then as an SNF Ambizione Fellow in 2014, and later as a Holcim Foundation Fellow. In 2018, he returned to Spain and held a tenure track position as a Ramón y Cajal Researcher at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona from 2018 to early 2022. In 2022, he joined the TU Wien as an Assistant Professor of Theoretical Chemistry. He completed his habilitation in December 2024 and received the venia docendi, opens an external URL in a new window for the subject “Theoretical Chemistry” in 2025. In recognition of his scientific achievements, Aleix Comas Vives was also awarded the Emerging Investigator Award by the Catalan Chemical Society in 2021.
