Associate Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Dr.techn. Stefan Baudis, opens an external URL in a new window has been affiliated with the Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry (E163) at the Faculty of Technical Chemistry at TU Wien as an Associate Professor of Macromolecular Chemistry since January 1, 2026.

CV: Stefan Baudis studied Engineering Chemistry with a specialization in Polymer Chemistry at TU Wien. He began his work in the field of biomaterials while working on his master’s thesis in Prof. Liska’s group. During his doctoral studies, he expanded the materials portfolio to include thermoplastic urethane elastomers as a basis for electrospun blood vessel replacement materials and earned his Ph.D. in 2011 with a dissertation titled “Development and processing of materials for vascular tissue regeneration, opens an external URL in a new window.” He then moved to the Institute of Biomaterials Science at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht in Teltow near Berlin, where he acquired additional qualifications by establishing a high-throughput facility for the combinatorial, robot-assisted development of polymeric biomaterials. After his postdoctoral fellowship in Germany, he returned to TU Wien in 2015, having secured a tenure track position in “Functional Polymeric Materials for Medical Technology,” which he has now successfully completed with the appointment as Associate Professor. In addition, he has headed the CD Laboratory for “Advanced Polymers for Biomaterials and 3D Printing”, opens an external URL in a new window since 2019.

Stefan Baudis’s academic home is the Polymer Chemistry and Technology Research Group (E163-02-1) within the Macromolecular Chemistry Research Division (E163-02). There, he focuses on combining synthetic and polymer chemistry to develop new materials, primarily for medical applications.
