The members of the cooperative cell chip research group, led by Prof. Peter Ertl and jointly supported by the Institute of Applied Synthetic Chemistry and the Institute of Chemical Technologies and Analytics at TU Wien, are researching and developing a groundbreaking test method for screening infections such as SARS-CoV-2.
With a novel biochip technology, even the smallest amounts of viruses can be detected. This minimizes the risk of false-negative results. The test result should be available in unprecedented speed, accuracy and reliability. The execution of the test is applicable anytime and anywhere.
No medical staff is required for this. The data from the test result will be routed directly from the chip to the epidemiological center.
In the future, this methodology will also be applicable to the detection of other pathogens such as swine flu, Ebola or new viruses induced by climate change.
