The two research projects at TU Wien that have now received ERC Grants both focus on cutting-edge technology: Daniela Kaufmann is developing tools that can be used to prove the correctness of digital systems, while Jiří Pavelec is developing a robot that will collect the data needed to develop new catalysts.

ERC Starting Grants are among the most prestigious research funding awards in Europe. They are awarded by the European Research Council (ERC) to early-career researchers who, only a few years after completing their doctoral degree, have already distinguished themselves through outstanding achievements and propose a project idea that promises research at the highest international level.

Daniela Kaufmann: Don’t Trust a Computer Without Proof!

How can we prove that a computer chip always produces the correct answer? Computer scientist Daniela Kaufmann is tackling this problem using new mathematical approaches.

Jiří Pavelec: A Robot Teaches Computers How to Find Better Catalysts

How can better catalysts for industry be developed? Jiří Pavelec plans to build an autonomous robot that will collect the data required for this purpose — under ultra-high vacuum conditions and with atomic-scale precision.
