The energy self-sufficient new building for the Vienna University of Technology, built in the 2nd district of Vienna by the Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft, will be completed by the end of 2021 and will provide laboratory and office space for the Faculty of Physics.

Hans-Peter Weiss, CEO of Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft: "Building university buildings brings with it very special challenges. On the one hand, atmospheric ones, because we want to create inspiring living space for students. On the other hand, special technical expertise is required when it comes to designing laboratory and research facilities for top international research. As a federal real estate company, we are specialized in both. The new institute building that we are currently constructing for the TU Vienna can also be operated almost energy self-sufficiently as a low-energy building - because climate-friendly construction is a major concern of the TU Wien and the BIG".

Josef Eberhardsteiner, Vice Rector of the TU Wien, on the progress of the construction work: "Research and teaching need optimal infrastructural conditions - that's what I am committed to. That is why I am pleased that the construction project is progressing despite the current situation and that we can create new space that will continue to enable research in the top international field".
