Open Science Trails (OSTrails, opens an external URL in a new window) is a project that seeks to revolutionise the planning, tracking, and evaluation of scientific knowledge. The objective is to develop a practical, open, and FAIR framework for European scientific research. OSTrails partners with leading experts in data management plans (DMPs), FAIR assessment tools, and scientific knowledge graphs (SKGs) to establish standards and improve the efficiency of data plans across Europe.

To further those objectives, on May 13th and 14th, 2024, 18 members of the OSTrails team gathered in Vienna for a productive hybrid two-day meeting with 25 online participants. The meeting was hosted by Tomasz Miksa, OSTrails technical lead from TU Wien, with assistance from Suvini Lai and Lukas Arnhold.

Draft Pathways

On day 1, the attendees defined their expectations regarding the topics of Pathways and Interoperability Specs & Architecture, SKGs, and DMPs. The afternoon was spent clarifying Pathways within the project.

Towards enhanced interoperability

Day 2 started with a presentation that spurred discussions on SKG definitions and interactions. Lastly, discussion on DMP platforms and interactions proved fruitful as key pathways for DMP-SKG interactions were identified.

Next steps

The OSTrails meeting in Vienna fostered considerable progress and set the stage for continued collaboration and innovation in the domain of Open Science.
