Open Knowledge Maps is a charitable non-profit organisation dedicated to dramatically increasing the visibility of scientific knowledge for science and society alike. To this end, Open Knowledge Maps operates the world's largest visual search engine for research. Instead of result lists, the search results are displayed graphically, in the form of so-called knowledge maps, providing an instant overview of a topic by showing the main areas at a glance.

For TU Wien Bibliothek, the partnership with Open Knowledge Maps is part of its strategic priority "Open Science", supporting sustainable digital infrastructures in science. Mag. Beate Guba, MSc., Library Director, TU Wien Bibliothek, on the partnership: “We are delighted to announce our new partnership with Open Knowledge Maps. We share the common goal of enhancing the visibility of research results beyond disciplinary boundaries and thus contributing to knowledge generation.”

As an open infrastructure, Open Knowledge Maps shares all of its source code, data, and content under an open license, and it openly publishes its roadmap and activities to enable broad community participation. Open Knowledge Maps is also cooperating with libraries in order to make literature sources and languages more discoverable that are in many cases not indexed by other products and search engines.  TU Wien Bibliothek will work together closely with Open Knowledge Maps, exchanging knowledge and advancing the sustainable and innovative development of our discovery tools.
