Kostal ARA Winner

Academic achievements are not only impressive on a transcript or diploma. Every year, ARA AG, opens an external URL in a new window presents the ARA Best Study Award to those students of the postgraduate MSc Environmental Technology & International Affairs (ETIA) program with the best academic performance.

Julia Kostal, ETIA graduate and winner of the 2019 ARA Best Study Award, is one of them: “The ARA Best Study Award provides an incentive for ETIA students to strive for excellent results. It further promotes a master’s program for graduates who aim to create positive change in sustainable development, environment, energy, and climate change.”

Career Moves since Graduating

Being awarded the ARA Best Study Award provides an additional reference for job applications. It gives visibility to graduates of the ETIA program that achieved outstanding results. After my graduation in 2019, I moved to Brussels to work as public affairs officer in European energy and climate policy. As of July 2021, I am co-creating Austria’s energy policy as legal expert in the electricity sector.  Understanding the basics of energy technologies and climate science, skills I acquired during the ETIA program, have certainly advanced my career. Building connections with students from all over the world has enriched my professional as well as my personal life.”

The interdisciplinary MSc Environmental Technology & International Affairs is a joint program of the TU Wien and the Diplomatic Academy Vienna. This pioneering project enables graduates to understand and analyze the relevant scientific and technical issues, while at the same time providing them with a sound knowledge of international affairs.
