International Symposium on Challenging Tunnel Construction

The Vienna University of Technology, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Institute of Interdisciplinary Construction Process Management, Prof. JODL and the Vienna University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Department of Civil Engineering and Natural Hazards, Institute of Geotechnical Engineering, Prof. WU intend to organize an international expert symposium on challenging tunnel construction in Vienna, Austria.

This symposium is to continue the discussion with Chinese colleagues started at the First International Expert Symposium on Undersea Construction in December 2005 in Shanghai. The Symposium 2007 is designed to attract owners, designers, researchers, contractors and suppliers.

In Austria, many tunnels of all categories and diameters were built in the past and still more tunnels are under construction and will be built in future as well as in China. Modern infrastructure often demands underground construction works. Engineering challenges on modern tunnelling construction need permanent exchange of international experiences. In respect of complex tunnel projects in difficult geological ground conditions the motto of this symposium will be: "Challenging Tunnel Design and Construction". It is an opportunity to present, discuss or observe progress and state of the art with focus on complex problem solving for tunnels and tunnelling.
