Inclusion TUnlimited
Inclusion TUnlimited transforms TU Wien into a place where diversity is not only welcomed, but actively shaped.
With the Inclusion TUnlimited project, we are taking a clear step toward inclusion for all members of TU Wien. This three-year project aims to systematically and sustainably embed inclusion across all areas of the university – structurally, digitally, organizationally, and culturally.

Sustainably anchoring inclusion at TU Wien
Mission & Objectives
- Greater Participation: Increase the employment rate of people with disabilities
- Fewer Barriers: Improve access to spaces, content, and processes
- Strengthening Community: Make diversity visible and promote belonging
- Sustainable Standards: Develop Guidelines, checklists, and processes for inclusive practice
What We Want to Achieve
- Create an inclusive environment that fosters academic success and strengthens TU Wien as an attractive employer.
- Position TU Wien as a leading institution for inclusion – visibly within the higher education sector and beyond.
Our Approach
The project develops structural solutions instead of case-by-case regulations. We rely on participatory processes, close collaboration with faculties, departments, and external partners – and are guided by "Design for All".
Design for All – Our Guiding Principle
The concept of “Design for All” originated in architecture and product design. It follows the principle of designing environments, products, and services in ways that make them usable by as many people as possible, regardless of age, background, or disability – without additional adaptations or special solutions.
A well-known example of this is the curb-cut effect: curb cuts were originally developed for wheelchair users, but today everyone benefits from them – for example, parents with strollers, people with luggage, or cyclists. Design for All works in the same way: measures that are essential for certain groups increase comfort and usability for everyone.
This principle is central to TU Wien: We understand inclusion not as an exception, but as a fundamental quality criterion in teaching, research, administration, and infrastructure. Therefore, Inclusion TUnlimited is aimed at all members of TU Wien – students, lecturers, researchers, and staff.
“Design for All” serves as a mindset and framework for proactively reducing barriers, using diversity as a resource, and establishing sustainable standards.
