Architecture
Orientation Orientierungskurs und Gegenwartsarchitektur
Welcome breakfast outside
October 1st, 2026, 10 o'clock, TU Wien Campus Karlsplatz, second courtyard
The module begins with a block workshop (tutorial + orientation course)
To provide an initial orientation, the tutorial, lectures and workshops will offer an overview of the content relating to professional practice and the degree programme. As part of the workshops (three different workshops per group: workshop days: 5 October, 6 October and 7 October), you will explore the theme of the existing built environment and gain initial experience of the ways of thinking and working in architecture. This involves not only the ‘craft’ of architecture, but also its theory, history, etc. The activities practised through analysis and an initial design exercise include observing, perceiving, reflecting, researching, discussing, presenting and visualising. The tasks are set in such a way that fundamental skills in abstraction, two- and three-dimensional thinking, and the handling of design come into play throughout the course of the exercises and in their outcomes.
The introductory lectures (October 1st and October 2nd) provide an initial insight into the organisation of the faculty (departments and their key areas of teaching and research), the structure of the degree programme and the requirements placed on students. Further lectures will introduce career fields and the role of architects.

The compulsory lecture provides first-year students with an overview of the field of electrical engineering and the degree programme in Electrical and Information Technology.
Welcome Day
October 1, 2026, 9 o'clock, lecture hall EI 7, Campus Gußhaus
The course Orientation is aimed at all first-semester students in the Bachelor’s program in Electrical Engineering and supports their entry into university life. Its goal is to provide practical information about everyday study routines, organizational procedures, and legal frameworks, as well as to help build social networks and study groups.
In interactive sessions, students become familiar with essential tools such as TISS and TUWEL, receive tips on self-organization, exam regulations, and funding opportunities, and gain insights into student participation in decision-making. This is complemented by campus tours and networking activities that encourage interaction and group formation. A special feature of the course is that it is conducted by experienced students from the Electrical Engineering Student Union. This not only ensures the transfer of relevant knowledge from first-hand experience, but also creates a low-threshold environment for asking questions and making the transition into university studies a shared experience.
