Prof. Kühn on the subject of course assessment
You may think that the exam or the result of an exercise should be feedback enough. That’s true to a certain extent: the lecturer can tell from the results whether the contents of the course have been effectively conveyed to the students. However, by completing your course assessment, you make it easier for lecturers to understand why some things work better than others. This can range from the style of teaching to the quality of the teaching materials all the way up to the structure of the course. It is the Dean of Studies’ duty to ensure that your assessment is taken seriously and has consequences. But we can only succeed if the response rate is high enough. Therefore, I ask you to assess every course possible. I assure you that it will be time well spent.
