With the Master’s programme “Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen - Maschinenbau” (hereafter: “Mechanical Engineering - Management”), you will deepen your technical, scientific and economic knowledge and acquire sound skills for solving complex engineering problems. You will learn modern methods from research and development, which you will be able to apply in a practical context and develop further through critical analysis. Furthermore, you will learn to take a holistic view of technical, economic and environmental aspects, to collaborate across disciplines, and to develop leadership, communication and problem-solving skills. The programme prepares you to devise innovative solutions to the challenges facing industry and research, and to implement them responsibly.

The course is multidisciplinary and has a modular structure which allows for a high degree of flexibility:

  • Advanced modules (30 ECTS): Students must select 6 modules, each worth 5 ECTS, from the following list (AI and Data Science, Introduction to the Finite Difference and Finite Volume Methods, Introduction to Finite Element Methods, Numerical Methods in Engineering, Structural Simulation, Advanced Strength of Materials, Machine Dynamics, Mechanics 3, Multi-Body Systems, Applied Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics 2, Thermodynamics 2, Heat Transfer, Fundamentals of Materials Modelling, Surface Technology, Materials Technology, Manufacturing Technology 2, Advanced Engineering Design, Advanced Machine Elements, Electrical Engineering and Electronics 2, Control Engineering 2, Human Resource Management and Leadership, Technology Entrepreneurship, Venture Financing and Sustainability Management, Controlling, Project- und Process Management, Corporate Entrepreneurship & Strategic Change, Industrial Information Systems)
  • Specialisation modules (28 ECTS): Two complete modules, each worth 14 ECTS credits, must be completed from the module groups ‘Mechanical Engineering Specialisation Modules’ and ‘Industrial Management Specialisation Modules’. At least one of these modules must be selected from the ‘Industrial Management Specialisation Modules’ group.
  • Project work (5 ECTS)
  • Subject-specific Electives (18 ECTS): Students individually select modules from the Master’s programmes in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering - Management, Chemical and Process Engineering for Sustainable Production, or from a list of currently available modules.
  • Free Electives and Transferable Skills (9 ECTS): The modules in this section are designed to deepen students’ knowledge of their subject area and to help them acquire knowledge, skills and competences outside their specialist field.
  • Master’s Thesis (30 ECTS)

Further Information

Admission to the Master’s programme in ‘Mechanical Engineering - Management’ is possible after completing an eligible Bachelor’s degree at an accredited national or international post-secondary educational institution. To compensate for fundamental subject-specific differences between your previous education and the level of qualifications expected at TU Wien, supplementary examinations totalling a maximum of 30 ECTS credits may be required.
