With “Verfahrenstechnik und nachhaltige Produktion” (hereafter: “Chemical and Process Engineering for Sustainable Production”) degree programme, you will acquire a sound education in mathematics, natural sciences, engineering and process engineering, which you can apply to the development, construction and operation of efficient and environmentally friendly production facilities. You will learn to critically analyse and evaluate existing and emerging process engineering concepts and systems in the light of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Furthermore, you will acquire skills in assessing environmental impacts and conducting technology impact assessments. Building on this foundation, you will develop the ability to design innovative and sustainable concepts and manufacturing processes for the circular economy, the bioeconomy and the implementation of renewable energy systems, and to implement them using process engineering techniques. The programme prepares you to design technical solutions that take ecological, economic and social requirements into account in equal measure.

Students must choose one of the following two specialisations:

  • Plant and Equipment Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering

In the related module “Combined Electives” (38 ECTS), it is possible to specialise further in a particular subject of choice. Complete at least 13 ECTS credits from two elective modules listed below:

  • Design and Simulation of Sustainable Energy Systems, Bioprocess Engineering and Bioeconomy, Fuel and Energy Technology, Chemical Technologies and Industrial Production, Strength Calculation and Design, Industrial Energy Systems and Digital Methods, Circular Economy and Recycling Technologies, Sustainable Material Selection, Systems Process Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Environmental Engineering

In the course of “Combined Electives” (38 ECTS), the remaining ECTS credits may be chosen from any elective or compulsory modules from the Master’s programmes in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering - Management and Technical Chemistry, as the Master’s programme in “Chemical and Process Engineering for Sustainable Production” is designed as an interfaculty programme.

Thanks to the variety of research areas represented at TU Wien, it is possible for students to take courses tailored to their the individual interests within the module “Free Electives and Transferable Skills” (9 ECTS).

The compulsory Master's Thesis (30 ECTS) is another opportunity to further specialise in a particular area.
