Medical Informatics (Master)
Medical Informatics is a joint English-taught Master’s programme run by TU Wien and the Medical University of Vienna.
Medical Informatics focuses on the integration of information technologies within the healthcare sector to drive innovation, improve treatment outcomes and support the digital transformation of healthcare. This interdisciplinary field combines knowledge from computer science, medicine, biology, public health and related disciplines to develop and implement innovative solutions.

The Master’s Programme in Medical Informatics is structured as follows:
- Foundations (30 ECTS)
- Advanced Software Engineering in the Biomedical Context (6,0 ECTS), Biological Basis of Disease (6,0 ECTS), Introduction to Medical Data Science and Analytics (6,0 ECTS), Introduction to Digital Health (6,0 ECTS), Practice of Medicine (6,0 ECTS).
- Seminar (3 ECTS)
- Project (6 ECTS)
- Elective modules (42 ECTS): Davon aus einem Schwerpunkt mind. 24 ECTS und 18 ECTS schwerpunktübergreifend wählen:
- Bioinformatics, Neuroinformatics, Public Health Informatics, Mobile Health, Wearable, and Assistive Technologies, AI and Analytics in Clinical Decision Making.
- Free Electives and Transferable Skills (9 ECTS): In this module, you may choose freely from the list of courses offered by all recognised national and international post-secondary educational institutions. However, at least 4.5 ECTS must be selected from the subject areas covered by Transferable Skills.
- Master's Thesis (30 ECTS)

Admission to the Master’s programme in Medical Informatics requires the completion of a relevant (Bachelor’s) degree at a recognised national or international post-secondary educational institution.
Graduates of Bachelor’s programmes in the field of Informatics at Austrian universities are eligible for admission without having to take supplementary exams.
