Programme Structure

The first semester is dedicated to getting around the foundations of Media and Human-Centered Computing with modules in Artifact-Based Design, Responsible Digital Ethics, and User Research Methods.
Over the course of the second and third semesters, you will focus on Design and Implementation in Media and Human-Centered Computing. You’ll also be able to specialize in your areas of interest by by selecting from a wide range of elective modules that build directly upon the foundational modules. These electives include Assistive Technologies, Computer Vision, Critical Theory and Design, Design Thinking, Gameful Design, Embodied Systems: A Human-Drone Interaction Perspective, Human-Centered AI, Human-Agent Interaction, Virtual, Augmented & Mixed Reality, Visualization, and Wellbeing Technologies.
The focus in the fourth semester lies on developing and writing up your master’s thesis.
Throughout your studies, a well-balanced set of open electives and extension courses deepen your knowledge beyond your core competencies in Media and Human-Centered Computing and allow you to explore interdisciplinary areas, design and interaction concepts in broader contexts, and develop valuable secondary skills.
Further Information
Admission to the Master’s programme in ‘Media and Human-Centered Computing’ is possible after completing an eligible Bachelor’s degree at an accredited national or international post-secondary educational institution. In particular, a degree programme is considered eligible, provided that at least 90 ECTS credits have been completed in the subject areas of Computer Science and IT, of which at least:
- 20 ECTS in mathematics and statistics, as well as the theoretical foundations of computer science, with knowledge, skills and competences acquired in accordance with the modules ‘Algebra and Discrete Mathematics’, ‘Analysis’, ‘Statistics’ and ‘Probability Theory’ of the Bachelor’s degree programme in Informatics at TU Wien;
- 24 ECTS in algorithms, data structures and programming, with knowledge, skills and competences taught in accordance with the modules ‘Algorithms and Data Structures’ and ‘Introduction to Programming’ from the Bachelor’s programme in Informatics at TU Wien.
- 18 ECTS from the theoretical, technical and practical foundations of Computer Science, with knowledge, skills and competences taught in accordance with the modules ‘Ways of Thinking in Computer Science’, ‘Introduction to Security’ and ‘Fundamentals of Digital Systems’ from the Bachelor’s degree programme in Informatics at TU Wien.
- 18 ECTS from Media and Human-Centred Computing, covering the knowledge, skills and competences taught in the modules of the specialisations Human-Centred Computing and Visual Computing within the Bachelor’s programme in Informatics at TU Wien.
To compensate for fundamental subject-specific differences between your previous education and the level of qualifications expected at TU Wien, supplementary examinations totalling a maximum of 30 ECTS credits may be required.
