Civil Engineering Science (Master)
The Master’s programme “Bauingenieurwissenschaften” (hereafter: Civil Engineering Science) provides a scientifically sound and methodologically advanced education, with a focus on the planning, design, implementation and management of complex construction and infrastructure projects. Graduates are prepared both for leading positions in planning, site supervision, consultancy and management, and for further doctoral studies.

The following examination subjects or modules must be completed as part of the Master’s programme in Civil Engineering Science:
- Interdisciplinary Education (10.0 ECTS)
- Two of the six Specialisations, in each of which the modules M1 – Master-specific Education and M2 – Advanced Education must be completed: Structural Engineering (Structural Systems) – Structural Engineering (Theory and Simulation) – Geotechnical Engineering – Construction Process Management – Transport & Mobility – Water & Resources
- In Module M3 – Complementary Education (15 ECTS), courses may be selected from any of the specialisation areas
- Free Electives and Transferable Skills (9.0 ECTS)
- Master's Thesis (30.0 ECTS)
Further Information
The programme is generally open to graduates of an accredited national or international Bachelor’s or Diploma degree programme in a relevant subject area. Admission is subject to an individual assessment of your prior education and, where necessary, supplementary examinations.

The Master’s programme in Civil Engineering Science provides an in-depth education that makes graduates internationally competitive and equips them for careers in fields such as the following:
- Design, planning and the independent preparation of structural, dynamic and building physics calculations for the construction, operation and demolition of building structures, such as complex projects in building construction, civil engineering, bridge engineering, hydraulic engineering and infrastructure
- The independent provision of planning, inspection, monitoring, consultancy, coordination, mediation and fiduciary services, in particular for carrying out measurements, preparing expert reports, acting as a professional representative before authorities and public bodies, the organisational and commercial management of projects, and undertaking overall planning contracts
- Site management, construction supervision and tender processing
- Carrying out analytical, conceptual and planning tasks in the infrastructure sector, in particular relating to integrated natural and technical systems in transport, water management and resource management
- Leadership roles and senior management
