Architecture (Master)
Excellence in design is a central learning outcome of the Master's programme in Architecture. The path to this leads via project exercises at different scales and with varying degrees of complexity, in which the handling of form, space, process and method design is practised. In addition to developing design skills, this Master's programme enables students to acquire the necessary specialist knowledge through theory-oriented, research-led modules.

The Master’s degree programme in Architecture consists of the following examination subjects and their corresponding modules:
- Design Studios (45 ECTS)
- Designs (15,0 / 10,0 / 5,0 / 2,5 ECTS)
- Artistic Projects (10,0 / 5,0 ECTS)
- Advanced Scientific and Artistic Studies (30 ECTS)
- Elective Courses and Transferable Skills (15 ECTS)
- Master's Thesis (30 ECTS)
Further Information
Admission to the Master’s programme in ‘Architecture’ is possible after completing an eligible Bachelor’s degree in Architecture. However, admission is also possible for holders of Bachelor’s, Master’s or Diplom degrees in related technical or artistic-scientific fields, provided these are equivalent in scope to the Bachelor’s degree in Architecture at TU Wien.

Once you have completed the Bachelor’s degree in Architecture at TU Wien, you can apply for admission to the Master’s programme in Architecture as a consecutive Master’s degree via TISS, opens an external URL in a new window (under the tab ‘Consecutive Master’s programmes with a Bachelor’s degree from TU Wien’) at any time of the year without any further procedure. Provided the tuition fee (Students' Union fee) for the semester has been paid within the deadline, you will then be admitted to the programme within a few days.
Admission with another Bachelor's degree

Master's graduates have comprehensive training in drafting, which makes up over half of the modules of this course. The course curriculum also enables students to gain a deeper academic understanding of all of the central architectural subjects, including city planning and landscaping, structural design and construction, residential buildings, interior design and building theory, care and preservation of monuments, reconstruction, project design, architectural theory, art history, construction research and management and computer-aided design. This course is broken up into modules that ensure a close interconnection of theoretical and practical subjects as part of a research-led learning programme. The wide range of modules and drafting available allows students to independently put together a course programme based around their talents and interests.
With these qualifications, graduates can practise their careers in the following fields: independent practice in architecture and city planning, work in architecture and design firms, the public sector, construction and design departments in companies, project development and consulting, teaching and research at universities and technical colleges, product development in the construction industry, IT for architecture, architectural journalism and in new design disciplines being created within the context of the information society.
