Financial Support for a Successful Start to Your Studies

The Study Start Grant supports high-achieving students from families facing socioeconomic challenges as they begin their bachelor’s degree program at TU Wien.

With a monthly stipend of 400 euros over two semesters (in addition to the student grant), the scholarship provides financial relief so that students can focus fully on their studies.

In addition, the program offers a comprehensive range of additional support to facilitate the transition from high school to university and later to the professional world as smoothly as possible.

 

  • A monthly stipend of 400 euros for two semesters (subject to proof of academic performance), in addition to the student grant
  • Individual mentoring during the first year of study with regular meetings
  • Kick-off event with the Vice President for Academic Affairs at the start of the academic year
  • Coffee hours for discussion and networking with international and local students
  • Support from the TU Career Center with coaching, workshops, and training for career entry
  • Networking with student councils and the Student Union (HTU) at TU Wien
  • Advice on international funding programs for a study abroad experience during your studies through TUW International Relations and Global Affairs

The requirements are the following:

  • First-year students at the start of their first semester of a Bachelor’s degree programme at TU Wien
  • Very good or good academic results
  • Recipients of a student grant (Studienbeihilfe)

Together, we aim to:

  • Inform students at an early stage about study opportunities and scholarships,
  • Facilitate access to funding for particularly qualified students,
  • Provide practical insights into the world of studies and research at TU Wien,
  • Support teachers and educational counselors in academic and career guidance,
  • Maintain a close dialogue with a school contact person acting as a direct interface to TU Wien, and
  • Encourage young women in particular to pursue a STEM degree.
     

Interested students are welcome to draw their teachers' or school administration's attention to the possibility of a cooperation. 

If interested, we look forward to a personal discussion with teachers or school administration regarding a potential collaboration.

  • Submitting a positive student grant notice (Studienbeihilfebescheids) is a prerequisite for the first payout.
  • Monthly payouts from September to June.
  • Funding for a maximum of two consecutive semesters.
  • Proof of at least 16 ECTS credits after the first semester is required for continued payment in the second semester.
  • Students whose parents do not hold a university degree will be given priority in the allocation of scholarship slots.
  • A maximum of 50 scholarship slots can be awarded in the 2026/27 academic year.

The TU Career Center accompanies scholarship holders with individual coaching, soft-skill workshops, and exclusive networking events. This actively supports the transition from university to the professional world.
