News about research data management

We go the extra mile for you!

At the beginning of October, members of the Center for RDM joined a group of TU Wien researchers at their symposium in Frankenfels to talk about RDM.

Our way to the RDM workshop in the Mostviertel region.

It was a good experience to get out of the office and out of the city for focused training on RDM in a different environment. The training was embedded in a two-day symposium of the Vienna Doctoral Programme on Water Resource Systems. We were invited to give an introduction to research data management and discuss domain-specific challenges within the group.

The participants were about 30 professors and doctoral students with similar data backgrounds but varying degrees of experience with RDM. During the three-hour workshop, we encouraged the group to share their experiences and find their next steps towards good data management and FAIR data. Among all the good ideas for the next steps were those on a personal level, like improving version control and data description, as well as to-dos for the working groups, like creating file naming conventions and informing new group members about RDM practices in the onboarding process. These are all good ideas, but this is our favourite of the collected aims: “Put into practice what I learned today”! There is not much to add except our offer to contact us if there are any questions on the way.

Are you interested in RDM training for your group on a similar occasion? Then contact us. We are happy to join you at your retreat venue, particularly if it is in beautiful nature and accessible by public transport. Alternatively, we can, of course, always meet in Vienna.
