Doctoral programmes

Learning from the best – that is what is on offer from doctoral programmes (DKs) financed by TU Wien. They allow the next generation of scientists to gain an excellent inter-disciplinary training based on the best of international research. Important elements of the funding of a doctoral programme by TU Wien include a multi-disciplinary approach to education in the university’s top research fields and the provision of 5–10 tutors for up to ten students.

Facts:

Target audience: Scientists who have completed their doctorate within the last ten years
Objective: Support for junior researchers
Financial award: up to ten scholars with three-year appointment at 25 hours per week

Criteria:

  • Scientific demand (relationship to internationally recognised top-level research, objectives, academic positioning)

  • Expectation of added value over and above individual mentoring

  • Quality of planning proposed

  • Positioned within TU Wien’s strategic research concept (relationship to the key research areas of the university as a whole)

Duration: max. three years
Award: Award decision made by the Rector’s Office following presentation by the scientific director to university management.
