Im Tourismusgeschäft brauchen Manager beispielsweise für Planungsentscheidungen Daten aus verschiedenen Bereichen, zum Beispiel offene verfügbare statistische Daten über Tourismus und wirtschaftliche Indikatoren sowie Berichterstattung über weltweite Veranstaltungen, um sinnvoll prognostizieren zu können. Ebenso müssen Manager komplexer Engineering-Projekte auf Daten aus verschiedenen Bereichen aus Maschinenbau und Elektrotechnik zurückgreifen, um Risiken zu bewerten und daraus Kennzahlen auf Projekt- und Unternehmensbereichsebenen zu gewinnen.

Schnell und präzise an Informationen zu kommen, ist schwierig, da nützliche Datenquellen häufig aus mehreren Domänen kommen, aus unterschiedlichen Typen und Sprachen bestehen und sie außerdem unterschiedliche Qualität und Struktur mit sich bringen. Daher ist eine, oft manuelle, Integration dieser Datenquellen äußerst zeit- und kostenintensiv. Ein vor allem manueller Datenintegrationsprozess senkt die Qualität des Entscheidungsprozesses: entweder wird auf eine kleine Menge von Daten, die manuell bearbeitet werden kann, zurückgegriffen oder eine zeitnahe Entscheidungsfindung wird unmöglich, wenn die Entscheidung von der Integration umfassender Datenquellen abhängt.

Dieser Workshop zeigt Ihnen bewährte und auch neue Methoden und Technologien, die die Entscheidungsfähigkeit Ihrer Organisation verbessern, indem Sie genauer, schneller und präziser auf Informationen und Wissen zugreifen können: Semantische Suche, Semantic Web, Linked Data und Collective Intelligence.

Sie gewinnen:

1. Ein besseres Verständnis der Herausforderungen bei der Datenerhebung, Verfeinerung und Analyse.  TU Wien Experten werden die Teilnehmer mit Problemstellungen, die gut mit diesen Technologien gelöst werden können, vertraut machen. In einem aktiven Rahmen werden die Teilnehmer erkennen, inwieweit die Herausforderungen zur Datenintegration innerhalb ihrer Organisation schlagend sind, und gemeinsam mit den TU Wien Experten Lösungsansätze für diese Herausforderungen entwickeln, die zu einer höheren betrieblichen Effizienz und zu neuen Marktchancen führen.

2. Überblick über modernste Methoden und Technologien.
TU Wien Experten stellen neueste Ergebnisse aus der Spitzenforschung in diesen Bereichen vor und erklären, wie diese verwendet werden, um Aufgaben effektiv und effizient zu lösen, etwa semantische Suche und Datenanalyse für die Entscheidungsfindung oder die Integritätsprüfung. Die Teilnehmer lernen diese Technologien als Schlüsselwerkzeuge für die Entwicklung konkreter Lösungen zur Bewältigung ihrer Datenintegrationsaufgaben kennen.

3. Ein besseres Verständnis der Lösungsmöglichkeiten. TU Wien Experten berichten über ihre erfolgreichen Technologietransfer-Projekte mit Industriepartnern aus Mechatronik, Tourismus und Verlagswesen. Die Teilnehmer erhalten einen Einblick, wie State-of-the-Art-Know-how dazu beiträgt, Datenintegrationsszenarien zu realisieren bei gleichzeitiger Verbesserung der Qualität und verringerten Datenzugriffszeiten. In diesem Workshop präsentieren und diskutieren ExpertInnen in den Bereichen Semantic Search, Semantic Web, Linked Data und Collective Intelligence die Schritte der Datenerfassung und -analyse für die integrierte Entscheidungsfindung:
   1. Identifikation und Integration mehrerer Datenquellen,
   2. Ansätze zur Datenanalyse und
   3. Datenvisualisierung zur Entscheidungsunterstützung.

Diese Ansätze sind bereits erfolgreich angewendet worden und werden in Zusammenarbeit mit Partnern aus der Industrie, einschließlich des Christian Doppler Forschungslabor "Software Engineering Integration für flexible Automatisierungssysteme" fortlaufend verbessert.
Interessierte Partner aus Industrie, Finanzwesen, Tourismus, Verlagswesen sowie der öffentlichen Verwaltung sind herzlich eingeladen, ihre Szenarien für die Datenintegration und Entscheidungsfindung zu diskutieren und weiterführende Kooperationsmöglichkeiten für die effiziente Verbesserung im Rahmen von (geförderten) Projekten zu identifizieren.

Technology Transfer Workshop
"Fast and Precise Information Access with Enterprise Knowledge Integration"
?   Does your department spend significant effort to sift through large quantities of data for answers to complex questions?
?   Do you make decisions based on data sources that include different types of data (e.g., text, open data, statistical data, engineering plans and models) from different knowledge areas (e.g., economy, tourism, engineering)?
?   Does your work depend on expertise that is spread among a group of experts and is not explicitly documented?

If so, you experience the challenge of modern knowledge workers (managers, analysts, decision makers, and CIOs) to make use of large-scale, diverse, and heterogeneous data sources:
In the tourism business i.e. managers need to forecast and take planning decisions based on data from different domains, such as open statistical data about tourism and economic indicators, as well as news coverage of world-wide events. Similarly, managers of complex engineering projects and environments need to assess risks and derive performance indicators at project and business unit levels based on data from different domains, from mechanical and electrical engineering plans to corporate key performance indicators and targets.

Fast and precise information access is a common challenge for solving many critical tasks. This is a difficult task as useful data sources often come from multiple domains, types, and languages and bring varying quality, levels of structure, and ownership with them. Therefore, integrating these data sources is a time- and cost-intensive, often manual, effort. For example, in the tourism business over 80% of the complex, cross-domain decision tasks involve manual data integration.
A primarily manual data integration process significantly lowers the quality of the decision making process. Either poorly informed decisions are taken by relying on small quantities of data that can be processed manually, or, timely decision-making becomes infeasible, if high-quality decisions depend on integrating comprehensive data sources.

This workshop will focus on proven and emerging methods and technologies that enhance an organization’s decision-making capabilities with deeper, faster, and more precise access to information and knowledge: Semantic Search, Semantic Web, Linked Data, and Collective Intelligence.

Benefits to participants include:
1. Better understanding of challenges in data collection, refinement, and analysis. TU Wien experts will familiarize participants with the problem settings that can be solved well with these technologies. In an active setup, participants will understand and clarify the extent of data integration challenges within their organization. They will also grasp the opportunities from addressing these challenges, such as faster and more efficient and precise search or decision making, which lead to higher operational efficiency and new market opportunities. 2. Overview on state of the art methods and technology. TU Wien experts share leading edge research results in these areas and explore how these can be used to solve tasks effectively and efficiently, such as semantic search and data analysis for decision-making or constraint checking. Participants will get to know new and proven technologies as key tools for developing concrete solutions for addressing their data integration challenges.

3. Better understanding of solution options. TU Wien experts share their success stories and examples of technology transfer projects to industry partners from mechatronic engineering, tourism, and publishing. For example, a 70% effort reduction was obtained using Linked Data for decision support in a demanding environment for decision-making in the tourism business. Participants will get an insight on how state-of-the-art expertise can contribute to solve data integration scenarios with the goal of reducing data access times while improving the quality of accessed information. At the workshop, experts in Semantic Search, Semantic Web, Linked Data, and Collective Intelligence will present and discuss the steps of data collection and analysis for informed decision-making:
1. Identification and integration of multiple data sources,
2. Approaches to data analysis, and
3. Data visualization for decision support.
These approaches have successfully been applied and improved in cooperation with industry partners, including the Christian Doppler Research Laboratory “Software Engineering Integration for Flexible Automation Systems”. During the workshop, interested participants will have the opportunity to discuss their scenarios for data integration and decision making to identify options for efficient improvement that may be eligible for government funding.
