GENERAL
The 3DMAG conference in Vienna will offer a rich social programme designed to foster interaction, networking, and cultural immersion alongside the scientific sessions.
The conference venue is located at Karlsplatz, one of Vienna’s most vibrant central areas offering a wide variety of dining options within walking distance.
Participants can explore everything from quick takeaway spots to traditional Austrian restaurants and international cuisine, as well as the famous Naschmarkt, opens an external URL in a new window, a popular open-air market known for its diverse food stalls and lively atmosphere.
Throughout the conference, participants will enjoy morning and afternoon coffee breaks, including the Tuesday and Wednesday poster sessions, open to all attendees. These breaks will provide coffee, tea, refreshments, and snacks next to the lecture hall where the talks will take place, encouraging discussion and exchange.
MONDAY 13 JULY
On Monday 13 July (13:00), all participants are invited to the inauguration of the conference with a concert by the TU Wien Orchestra (string quartet), opens an external URL in a new window, featuring classical Viennese repertoire.
Later that day (17:00-17:30), a conference photo will be taken at Karlsplatz.
TUESDAY 14, WEDNESDAY 15 JULY
During Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 July, participants may join visits to the laboratories of the host organisers at TU Wien (3DNANO group). These visits include demonstrations of advanced scientific instrumentation, with contributions from sponsoring companies. Please note that participation in the lab visits is limited and requires selecting this option during the conference registration process.

THURSDAY 16 JULY
The main social event will take place on Thursday 16 July and is included for all scientific participants. The evening begins at 17:30 with a guided tour of Vienna aboard a historic tram, opens an external URL in a new window, offering a unique perspective on the city’s main landmarks. The tour concludes near the dinner venue.
At 18:30, the conference dinner will be held at Feuerwehr Wagner Heuriger, opens an external URL in a new window, a traditional Viennese Heuriger, opens an external URL in a new window (wine tavern). Heuriger establishments are characteristic of Vienna’s wine culture, where locally produced wines are served alongside typical Austrian dishes in a convivial, informal atmosphere. This experience will offer participants a taste of regional cuisine and wines produced on-site.
Participation must be requested by selecting the corresponding option during the registration process. Sponsors are also welcome to join the Thursday tram tour and conference dinner for an additional fee.
Outside the Programme
Vienna offers a wide range of cultural and recreational activities during the summer, many of them free of charge.
A highlight is the Film Festival at Rathausplatz, opens an external URL in a new window, an open-air event combining music, cinema, and gastronomy in front of the City Hall. Visitors can enjoy screenings of opera, concerts, and performances alongside international food stands in a vibrant atmosphere. More information is available here:
The Prater amusement park, opens an external URL in a new window—one of the oldest in the world—offers both attractions and access to extensive green areas within the city, easily reachable via the U2 metro line from the conference venue.
The Danube riverside, opens an external URL in a new window provides opportunities for relaxation, including designated swimming areas and large green spaces ideal for outdoor activities.
Vienna is also renowned for its cultural heritage, including world-class museums, imperial palaces such as Schönbrunn and the Hofburg, and a rich musical tradition. Visitors may enjoy performances at iconic venues such as the Vienna State Opera, the Burgtheater, the Volksoper, or the Musikverein.
