Torsion Test Bench

The torsion test rig can be used to investigate and measure so-called elastomer claw couplings. Such couplings connect, for example, the input and output sides in automotive powertrains and can transmit high torques, but exhibit complex dynamic behavior. The coupling's design and elastomer elements exhibit nonlinear progressive stiffness, hysteresis and creep effects.

The test bench can be used to analyze these characteristics in detail, to parameterize and test corresponding models, and to create and test controllers based on them. Two motors (nominal torque 25Nm) serve as actuators and also enable freely rotating measurement scenarios. On both sides, the torsional angles and torques as well as the coupling temperature are measured. On the software side, the test bench is operated within a MATLAB/Simulink environment, which simplifies the testing of advanced control approaches.

The test bench is also suitable for investigating nonlinear resonance phenomena, such as those familiar from the start-up behavior of machine tools to washing machines. In this way, ideas can be developed and implemented to control resonances in technical applications or even to use them in a targeted manner.
