Long title: AI-Powered Regulatory Intelligence for Aviation Maintenance

Sponsor: FFG

Duration: 09/2026 - 08/2027

Abstract

The aviation maintenance industry is facing increasing challenges due to the growing complexity of aircraft, rising air traffic, and evolving regulatory and sustainability requirements. Consequently, inspection processes are becoming more demanding, requiring the extensive review and interpretation of regulatory documents, effective management of reference materials, and the preparation of accurate and traceable documentation. To address these challenges, the AviLex project explores the feasibility and potential of hybrid AI approaches to support aviation maintenance and regulatory compliance. As an exploratory research project, AviLex serves as a preliminary step toward a larger collaborative R&D initiative with industrial aviation stakeholders.

Results

  • Methodological framework for applying hybrid AI approaches in aviation maintenance and regulatory compliance.
  • Validated concept and prototype components for AI-supported regulatory information retrieval and interpretation.
  • Foundation for a cooperative R&D project with aviation industry partners and further development of the hybrid AI approach.
