The module “Introduction to Aeronautical Engineering” is mandatory. In this course, students become familiar with the university’s structure and the research areas of the Faculty of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. In addition, they gain insight into the teaching and research activities of the institutes, each of which represents a specialization track within the Master’s programme Aeronautical Engineering.

In this module, students must complete a project work related to one of the specialization modules. The project work module is compulsory.

Module „Projekt Work“ (5,0ECTS)

Students must complete three entire specialization modules, each amounting to 14 ECTS credits. Individual specialization modules are directly related to the Fundamentals Modules. A specialization module is considered completed only after one of its corresponding fundamentals modules has been successfully completed. It is recommended that students complete the corresponding fundamentals modules before taking the courses from the specialization modules. If the total number of ECTS credits for the selected courses exceeds 14 for the selected specialization module, the subject-specific electives will be reduced accordingly.

As part of this module, students individually select additional courses from the catalogs of the specialization modules or from a list of currently offered courses, which is determined each year by the Aeronautical Engineering Academic Committee. The goal is to enable students to develop their own specialized focus or to supplement what they have learned in their specializations.

Module „Subject-specific Electives“ (13,0ECTS)

The courses in this module are designed to deepen students’ knowledge of the subject and to help them acquire knowledge, skills, and competencies outside the discipline. Courses in this module can be freely selected from the range of academic and creative courses offered by all recognized domestic and international postsecondary educational institutions that are designed to deepen students’ knowledge of the subject or to help them acquire knowledge, skills, and competencies outside their major, with the restriction that at least 4,5 ECTS credits must be selected from the subject areas of Transferable Skills. In particular, courses from TU Wien’s central elective catalog “Transferable Skills” may be selected for this purpose.

To complete their degree, students must independently write a thesis on a topic of their choice and present it at an oral examination before a committee.
