Geo Colloquium: Peter Kiefer
Colloquium
Dr. Peter Kiefer (ETH Zurich)
Abstract. Spatial decision making is central to many tasks, yet often challenging under time pressure, uncertainty, or high information density. While this applies to everyday tasks such as wayfinding, it becomes even more critical in high stakes operations that underpin the resilience of modern societies, including aviation, emergency response, and the monitoring of critical infrastructure. Research on spatial eye tracking has made substantial progress in understanding and supporting spatial decision making, advancing methods for modelling cognitive states, and enabling gaze-based interaction across laboratory and real-world settings. Yet we still lack a coherent understanding of spatial decision making in complex environments. In my talk, I will present recent work from the geoGAZElab offering a perspective on how eye tracking and related approaches can support spatial decision making beyond wayfinding.
Bio. Dr. Peter Kiefer is a Senior Scientist leading the geoGAZElab at the Chair of Geoinformation Engineering at ETH Zurich. His research focuses on understanding and supporting spatial decision making through eye tracking. His work is interdisciplinary, connecting Geographic Information Science, Eye Tracking, and Human–Computer Interaction.
