Hello! I am Inmaculada Fernández Alfonso, I am 23 years old and I come from Spain. You might be wondering what brought me here: I am a student of the InterMaths Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree, a programme in interdisciplinary mathematics with applications in industry and biomedicine.

I studied a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics at the University of Valencia. However, I wanted to explore this more applied side of mathematics and also learn from a different perspective through this international experience. After spending my first semester in Italy, I moved to Vienna last March. Here at TU Wien, I am specialising in Computational Fluid Dynamics which is a completely new field for me!

Studying at a technical university has been a change from what I was used to. The methodology here is quite different. For example, the way of teaching here is more based on projects and oral exams, which is something I was afraid of at first but that I really like now. I believe this way we really learn the concepts in depth and gain a better understanding of the topics. Also, I have felt so good since the very first moment. Even though I am not a local student, I felt very welcome and found people very willing to help.

It is very rewarding to see the practical side of the equations and I am really enjoying this experience! I truly want to continue learning and I am ready for new projects!
