Academic integrity

Besides citation rules, other standards also apply to the writing process. Formal aspects, such as presentation conventions in tables, manuscript structure and linguistic aspects or issues regarding the attribution of authorship are also subject to conventions. Academic style guides provide clarification on many of these issues and support efficiency in academic writing.

Key style guides:

  • Chicago Manual of Style
  • APA Publication Manual
  • CSE Scientific Style and Format
  • A number of professional societies, such as the American Chemical Society (ACS) or the American Institute of Physics (AIP), use these as the basis of their own style guides.
