What does the library offer?
TU Wien Bibliothek is open to the public for learning and research. Knowledge is brought together here. We are the largest library in Austria for scientific and technical literature and specialist information, and we provide services in support of teaching, study and research, as well as offering services in support of an open science approach.
Learning in the library
We have two sites, the Main Library and the Chemistry and Mechanical Engineering Library, where you can learn surrounded by books up to 7 days a week. The majority of the study desks are intended for working in silence, and there are also areas for teamwork, as well as bookable group study rooms.
You can use our library catalogue, CatalogPlus,, opens an external URL in a new window to search our stock of printed and electronic specialist literature. The up-to-date printed books and journals are kept in the library on open shelves arranged according to the TU Wien classification system and are freely accessible during opening hours.
You also have access to around 140,000 e-books – including electronic versions of many textbooks – as well as databases. Due to licensing conditions, some of our electronic services are limited to students and employees of TU Wien, but can be used by external library users on library-owned terminals. See our information on searching to find out more.
Services supporting academic work and research
The initial consultations service provides a preliminary introduction to all aspects of using the library and searching its resources. Our other services and courses support students, teachers and researchers at all stages of academic work, from searching, to publication and dissemination.
