Our research focuses on electronically highly correlated electron systems - a topic of basic research - and thermoelectrics - here there is application relevance. Both are extremely interesting areas where a lot of new things are being discovered.
In the first area, highly correlated electron systems, we are investigating quantum phase transitions in heavy-fermion systems and thus getting to the bottom of the phenomenon of strongly interacting electrons and their tendency to magnetism and superconductivity.
In thermoelectrics, a purely solid-state physical effect can convert temperature differences into electrical voltage - a process of great interest for waste heat recovery. Here we explore the promising class of thermoelectric clathrates.
