Micro-electrode-arrays (MEAs) are key for neural/electrogenic cell signal recording in-vitro & in-vivo. 2D materials promise cost-efficient (inkjet-)printable MEA fabrication with high biocompatibility and tuneable electronic properties via 2D material chemical functionalisation & 2D composition design.

There is however practically no work on (inkjet-)printed graphene MEAs [11, 12]. For other 2D materials such as 2D-MoS₂ which promises better signal transfer in MEAs or bio-functionalized/new 2D materials there is no literature at all.

The objective here is development of new 2D materials inks (Bayer) for blanket printing and microstructuring (Wanzenböck) and inkjet-printing (Zeck) of MEAs for neural/electrogenic cell signal recording (Wanzenböck/Zeck). Materials will include graphene, 2D sulfides and 2D hBN incl. new bio-functionalisation.
