From the 4th of August until the 25th of August, the PhD students and the guests of CO2Refinery had a great opportunity to learn more about the laboratories and facilities available in TU Wien. Each week, the supervisors of CO2Refinery with the help of their research teams organized extensive laboratory tours.

The month of the Lab Tours began with an excursion to TU Wien BB Technikum and the bioreactor laboratories of Biochemical Technology research division. The tour was held by Matthias Steiger and Stefan Pflügl. On the second Wednesday of the month, the team of CO2 Refinery went through the set-ups presented in different research areas of ICEBE: an extraction plant and hollow-fiber membrane production (the tour organized by Michael Harasek); fluidized and fixed bed reactors and thermochemical energy storage (the tour organized by Franz Winter); a dual fluidized bed reactor and a methanation process system (the tour organized by Stefan Müller).

On the 18th of August, Katrin Föttinger showed the laboratories of Technical Chemistry and introduced the team to different catalyst and chemisorption studies. After that, CO2Refinery moved to the farthest building of TU Wien – Arsenal Science Center, where Andreas Werner and members of IET presented a CO2 test rig, fixed bed generators and hydraulic and gas turbines.

The laboratory of Organic Synthesis and Catalysis was visited on the 25th of August, where Katharina Schröder gave an overview of sCO2 extraction and reaction units. Last but not least, Thomas Konegger and his team showed the laboratories of Chemical Technologies and explained the powder metallurgy from powder preparation till material characterization.

Thanks to the organizers of the laboratory visits, the event helped to create greater bonds between the PhD students and broaden up their knowledge in different research areas of CO2Refinery.
