Develops methodologies for earthquake-resistant building design, integrating structural dynamics, material science, and performance-based engineering. Research spans code development, retrofitting techniques, and resilience assessment.
Research activities also address the seismic vulnerability of historic brick masonry buildings from the period of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy (≈ 1840-1918). By combining systematic post-earthquake damage surveys with advanced numerical analyses, characteristic damage patterns and governing failure mechanisms are identified. This approach enables the detection of critical structural weaknesses and the derivation of damage trends as a function of specific building characteristics, providing a robust basis for vulnerability classification and targeted retrofitting strategies.
