Experimenting for transformative change? - New research project at SRF

Incremental policies won't suffice in response to climate change. Governing societal transformation requires greater leverage. Experimental approaches to climate governance are becoming increasingly important in this regard. But what are those labs, sociotechnical experiments, and experimental policies that aim to tackle climate change all about? What determines their fruition and how can successful climate experiments be replicated? These and other questions are addressed in the new SIAMESE research project, which kicked off on October, 01. In the next 2 years, researchers of SRF together with the Centre for Social Innovation (ZSI) will examine experimental approaches to climate change adaptation and mitigation in Austria to understand how they contribute to social change and socio-technical transitions and what policymakers and planners can learn from them regarding transformative practice.
